ISTANBUL – A Turkish airliner skidded down a runway, crashed as a ditch and broke aside while landing in bad weather in Istanbul Wednesday, killing three people and injuring dozens more. Passengers had to scramble through the split fuselage to escape.

The aircraft, operated by low-cost provider Pegasus Airlines, had been coming to Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport through the western Turkish city of Izmir with 183 passengers and crew up to speed when it had exactly what the Transportation Ministry referred to as a “rough landing.”
