Former Burton Albion defender Kelvin Maynard has been shot and killed in Amsterdam, Dutch authorities have confirmed.
The 32-year-old was shot in his vehicle since they search for two suspects who they say escaped on a shameful scooter, and police are appealing for witnesses.
He afterwards died of his injuries although Physicians from a fire station tried to help Maynard.
The participant, who had a spell in Royal Antwerp, was at club Alphense Boys.
Maynard combined Burton at November 2014 following Dutchman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s appointment as director.
Injury restricted him to ten appearances before he had been ruled out for the subsequent effort after suffering a knee injury at a game as the Brewers won the the 2014-15 League Two title.
He left Burton in January 2017 to join facet Spakenburg.
