The Cubs will look to stop the bleeding Sunday supporting Cole Hamels. Between Friday and Saturday, the Cubs are outscored. That is going to need to change or so the Nationals are going to be breaking the brooms over a team they may see at the postseason. If things stay how they are, that would be from the Wild Card Game. Stephen Strasburg expects to lead his staff and much farther.
Strasburg has been using a strong 2019 campaign, having a 3.65 ERA and record of 15-5. He is coming off a stellar performance against the Pirates, with allowed no runs . There are a few hitters that he has to be aware of in this game, although he’s been adequate against the Cubs.
Nick Castellanos, Jason Heyward, and kyle Schwarber have done harm against him with averages above .300. Apart from that, he has been serviceable against the Cubs, since they are hitting .250 with 20 runs scored in 152 at-bats as a group.
Cole Hamels has been effective against the Nats in his carer, though. He’s faced the Nationals at 213 at-bats, yet he has allowed the exact identical number of runs as Strasburg. The Nationals will also be hitting .239 against Hamels. Things have not gone well for Hamels.
He’s fought with a 12.27 ERA in his latest three outings. But, two of those were on the street, and in the one home game, he allowed 3 runs in a win in 6 innings against the Giants. Wrigley was friendly to Hamels, having now surrendered more than 3 runs in a house start this season.
In 58 innings at home, Hamels has posted an ERA of 2.56 and also 1.09 WHIP without a reduction. It’s hard to ignore that as a house underdog. With their backs against the wall after a disastrous couple of days in Chicago, start looking for the Cubs to get back on track.
