From selecting a team name developing a cricket team from scratch will be far from straightforward.
What will they be called? What color will they perform in? What will their badge look like? Wholl play for them? And so Forth.
Those were all decisions which needed to be made when The Hundred – a new contest next summer, to be performed for the first time – had been conceived.
The contest – finish with team names and kits – was launched earlier this month, as soon as the eight groups at the UKs first sporting draft will snap up the worlds best players and also the playing squads will be finalised on Sunday.
But how do we got here? BBC Sport looks into the process of constructing up a team from nothing, to play in a competition thats completely different to anything seen in a cricket field.
The brand newest teams are franchises located in seven UK cities – Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, London, Southampton and Cardiff. Once that has been determined, the next step was to assign titles and build a brand.
The choice to step away from national crickets traditional 18-county format meant identities needed to be created for the groups.
To begin with, both the England and Wales Cricket Board commissioned study to each of the seven competing cities and the surrounding areastargeting people aged 16-24 – the age group the ECB expects The Hundred could attract – and then people aged around 50.
That study gave a study on every team to the ECB, pulling out different themes, which have been taken by a branding company.
Southern Brave, the team which will play Southampton, as an instance, were appointed after it had been discovered young folks in the region had an affinity with the countryside of the region.
The moniker of manchester is that theOriginals, and it will be a nod to the towns role in shaping decades gone by – from The Hacienda nightclub, the Stone Roses and New Order into Oasis audio landscape.
Trent Rockets are so called as the River Trent runs throughout all three of the Nottingham-based teams catchment counties – Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire – and the Invincibles name was provided to The Oval-based franchise since a subtle reference to Invicta, the motto of Kent – one of those counties which will feed into the team.
When it came to designing kits, colours which were associated with football teams have been ruled out, significance Manchester Originals, as an instance, will play in dark – the towns part from the Industrial Revolution.
The centrepiece of the Manchester strip is the Originals hexagon-shaped emblem, which signifies a bolt out of the citys industrial past, and a beehive – a reference to the employee bee symbol of Manchester.
Designers have created a brand new alphabet with letters created from symbols and prominent Manchester temples that will be used around the group in advertising and posters.
Elsewhere, Birmingham Phoenix will perform in orange, a color chosen as a mix of two flags that are local – the West Midlands yellow and the city of Birminghams yellow and red.
Additionally, it integrates this town flag at the plan of the shirt while Indian Premier League-style stone helmets will be worn by Birmingham batsmen, an attempt to appeal to a South Asian market – yet another key purpose of this Hundreds chevrons.
However, what are kits and team names with no gamers?
Among the last steps prior to the tournament begins next summer – itll run at the school vacations from 17 July to 16 August 2020 – is Sundays mens player draft.
Each group has so far selected two icons and player contracted, and the remaining areas will be filled by them in the 15-man squads in a televised draft in London.
Many of the worlds leading players are offered, such as Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc that have set their book price in the maximum #125,000. Every team will take it in turns to select all squads to include two players at each of the subsequent cover brackets: # 75,000, # 100,000, # 5 125,000, # 60,000, # 50,000, # 40,000 and Number 30,000.
Former England opener Marcus Trescothick has been operating with Welsh Fire, together with head coach Gary Kirsten, to help identify potential signings and will be in the event on Sunday.
I feel that the pitches will probably be fairly decent and created for enjoyable cricket, the former Somerset batsman mentioned.
The cornerstone of it will be similar to that which T20 cricket appears like but its then about trying to think fast on your feet
Trescothick said he anticipates all groups to need apuzzle spinner, ahigh-class all-rounder,a couple of rather good fast bowlers andvery good high order players, with Welsh Fire having already secured Englands Jonny Bairstow, Somersets Tom Banton and Glamorgans Colin Ingram – all of whom play on top of the purchase.
With those selections in your mind, Welsh Fire will concentrate on areas from Sundays draft.
We are not going to go into the draft searching for two openers, Trescothick said. We would be silly to.
We will attempt to pick out specific people we have identified that is going to be in key positions in the Hundred.
Theres a difference of opinion on how the tournament will play with more conventional players being predicted by franchise cricket coach Trent Woodhill and skillsets will come to the fore.
I think this competition will redress the balance between bat and ball, explained Woodhill, a high heeled consultant for Your Hundred.
The format lets players bowl 10 balls in a row and that is going to allow bowlers to get on top and stay at the top, therefore batsmen like Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Joe Root will be critical.
Equally, starting bowlers who swing the ball the likes of David Willey, Mitchell Starc and Mohammad Amir – will probably be successful.
The job is far from completed post-draft. How do you get 15 players who have not ever played together to mould to a group to creating their franchiser and buy a victory on the pitch?
Oval Invincibles womens head coach Lydia Greenway claims thatblank canvas isvery exciting.
I am very clear on the folks I need included and the type of players too, the former England batter stated.
What I hope happens is that all of cultures are built, they are exactly the exact same for the mens and the girls teams.
Hopefully it is not just a womens team consuming a mens team or some mens team consuming a womens team. It is a combined up approach and you try to present yourself in a manner that that reflects the people you have involved.
The draft will soon be streamed on iPlayer and the BBC Sport site and accompanied by a dimensional live text commentary about Sunday.
