Serena Williams dominates Maria Sharapova in US Open 1st round

„It was a difficult first set for me personally because I had the guide so things were looking good for mepersonally, however (Nagal) came right back and played really strong,“ Federer, who ended with 57 unforced errors, said to ESPN. „Credit to him to actually play with a solid first group. I was missing a great deal of balls and I had been hoping to cut back on the unforced mistakes and serve a bit better since that let me down. It came back in time. In the end, I actually played great tennis, so I am happy.“
Pliskova survive 1st-round matches to advance

„Not ideal, but I am through so that is critical,“ Pliskova said. „Obviously, like I said before, the initial rounds they are always a bit nervous, I would state, for the majority of the players. Doesn’t help that you just play somebody from your country, because then it adds some additional nerves“
Osaka must defend her title to maintain the No. 1 ranking. She’ll play Russian Anna Blinkova on Tuesday.
